Israel engaged 10,000 personnel in Gaza ground operation, report says

TEL AVIV, November 21. /TASS/. Over 10,000 Israeli military personnel have been engaged in the operation on elimination of Palestine’s Hamas radical group in the Gaza, Haaretz reports citing the IDF.

According to the newspaper, Israel dispatched over 10,000 servicemen to Gaza to fight Palestinian radicals. Most of them are currently engaged in cities of Gaza and Jabalia in the northern part of the enclave. The newspaper reported several friendly fire incidents, which are currently being investigated.

On October 10, the IDF announced the draft of 300,000 reservists over the beginning of hostilities around the Gaza Strip. Later, the government approved draft of additional 360,000 reservists, including those staying in European states.

Overall, the IDF hast lost 66 servicemen during the ground operation in Gaza, which followed three weeks of bombardments. The ground operation is currently focused on the northern part of the Gaza Strip, but its next stage may include progress further south into the enclave.

The situation in the Middle East has escalated abruptly after an armed infiltration of HAMAS militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel. The HAMAS movement considers this attack a response to the actions of Israeli authorities towards the Al Aqsa Mosque at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Israel announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip and started carrying out strikes on the enclave and certain areas in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
