Al-Shifa hospital currently housing almost 9,000 people, Gaza officials say

"These include medics, injured people, patients and internally displaced people," the statement reads

BEIRUT, November 15. /TASS/. Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip is now host to almost 9,000 people, including patients and those injured, Gaza officials said in a statement.

"The occupant army (the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) — TASS) is striking the Al-Shifa hospital complex as it has been opening fire on its premises, even though they are well aware that that are almost 9,000 people inside the facility. These include medics, injured people, patients and internally displaced people," the government of the Palestinian enclave wrote on its page on Facebook (a social media site banned in Russia since it is owned by Meta corporation deemed extremist by the Russian authorities).

The Gaza Strip administration described the developments around Al-Shifa as war crimes as it put the responsibility for the security of people trapped inside the medical facility on the United States and the international community. According to Gaza officials, in all, 198 health workers have been killed since the military conflict erupted, with 55 ambulances being shelled and 25 medical facilities suspending operations.

Earlier, Al Mayadeen television accused the Israeli military of opening fire on hospital staff, but it did not specify any casualties among medics.

The Israeli military began storming the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, claiming that the facility acts as a cover-up for the main headquarters of the HAMAS movement. The IDF also claimed that that there is a network of underground bunkers and a tunnel under the medical facility, where around 200 radicals are hiding. An unknown number of Israeli hostages are believed to have been kept in that tunnel since October 7.
