Nearly 500 people detained in France in past month for anti-Semitic acts

"Twice as many anti-Semitic acts were committed just last month as in all of 2022," Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin noted

PARIS, November 7. /TASS/. Almost 1,100 anti-Semitic acts took place in France in the past month, with over 490 people being detained in connection with them, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

"Over 1,000 anti-Semitic acts have been recorded since October 7 and their number is about to hit 1,100," he told Sud Radio. "Twice as many anti-Semitic acts were committed just last month as in all of 2022. More than 490 people have been detained," Darmanin added.

Paris Prefect of Police Laurent Nunez said on November 5 that 257 acts of anti-Semitism had been recorded in the French capital and its suburbs since October 7. According to the City of Light’s police chief, this is twice as many as last year.

Pro-Palestine demonstrations started taking place across France a few days after tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7. However, the French authorities have banned most such rallies.
