MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. The upcoming BRICS Games in Russia will be a source of pride for the country, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said on Monday.
"The capital of Tatarstan has extensive experience in holding sporting events at the international and all-Russian level, as most recently Kazan successfully hosted the first-ever 'Games of the Future' competition," the Russian sports minister stated.
"The upcoming BRICS Games mark a big date on the sports calendar, so meticulous work is underway with all sports federations to prepare the national teams for this tournament," Matytsin continued.
"This year Russia is chairing the BRICS organization, which gives it a special responsibility regarding the arrival of high-ranking officials," he said. "The BRICS Games will undoubtedly be a source of pride."
2024 BRICS Games
The 2024 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Games will be hosted by Kazan on June 12-23 and will feature events in 25 different sports.
In mid-May 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to submit proposals for organizing and holding the 2024 BRICS Games in Russia.
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin emphasized earlier that the BRICS Games are not meant to rival any other competitions and will not interfere with the international sports calendar.
