Moscow selected to host 2019 Beach Volleyball European Championship

MOSCOW, July 23. /TASS/. The Russian capital of Moscow has been selected to host the 2019 Beach Volleyball European Championship, the press service of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) announced on Monday.

The European governing body of volleyball said in its statement that Europe’s beach volleyball tournament "will be taking place in Moscow, Russia from August 5 to 11," adding that "the continental showpiece will return to the capital city of Russia for the first time since the 2005 edition."

The CEV press service said that the venue the next year’s European beach volleyball competition in men and women categories will be located near iconic Luzhniki Stadium on the shores of the Moskva River.

"It is a great opportunity for Russian sports to organize this event," Stanislav Shevchenko, the president of the Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF), was quoted as saying in the statement. "Beach Volleyball is developing very fast in Russia and raising the interest of spectators and fans alike.

"I want to express our gratitude to the European Volleyball Confederation for their trust," Shevchenko, who also holds the post of a CEV vice president, said. "We, as organizers, have great experience in holding international tournaments in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. I am confident that the tournament will be held at a very high level with tremendous support from the audience."

Commenting on Moscow’s selection to host the next year’s tournament, CEV President Aleksandr Boricic said: "With their proven record of accomplishment in organizing top Volleyball events, we are confident that the 2019 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship in Russia will be a truly remarkable event, which will further increase the popularity of Beach Volleyball all across Europe."

The Beach Volleyball European Championship is held annually since 1993 and the 2005 and 2009 editions were hosted by Moscow and Russia’s resort city of Sochi respectively.
