Russia aims to increase number of large families to 2.7 million by 2036 — ministry

The strategy is set to be implemented in two phases - from 2025 to 2029 and from 2031 to 2036

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Russia has developed an action plan to boost demographic growth and increase the number of large families, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Labor and Social Protection announced.

"Based on the results of studies, the main goals of the strategy have been formulated: strengthening the institution of the family, protecting, preserving, and promoting traditional family values and family life; creating a motivational system for citizens of all ages to lead a healthy lifestyle, ensuring conditions for timely disease prevention, safeguarding the health of mothers and children, and enhancing the reproductive health of citizens," the press service stated.

The strategy is set to be implemented in two phases - from 2025 to 2029 and from 2031 to 2036.

"It is anticipated that, if the action plan is fully implemented by 2036, the total fertility rate will reach at least 1.8, the share of supported student families will be at least 90%, the number of large families will exceed 2.7 million, and life expectancy will rise to 81 years," the ministry added.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova stated that Russia currently has 24.5 million families with 30 million children. Life expectancy in Russia is expected to increase to 78 years by 2030 and 81 years by 2036. According to President Vladimir Putin's directives, the total fertility rate should increase to 1.6 by 2030 and 1.8 by 2036.
