Iranians convicted in Russia to be sent home to serve out sentences — Justice Ministry

The statement was made during the joint board meeting between the Justice Ministries of Russia and Iran

DUBAI, November 8. /TASS/. Two Iranian nationals serving sentences in Russia may soon be transferred to their home country, Iranian Justice Minister Amin Hossein Rahimi said at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Konstantin Chuychenko in Tehran.

"The measures to transfer Iranian convicts from Russia are being finalized, and soon we will witness the transfer of Iranian prisoners who wish to serve their sentences in Iran," he said, as quoted by the IRNA news agency.

"In accordance with these agreements, two Iranians who are serving their sentences in Russia will soon return to Iran," he added.

The Justice Ministries of Russia and Iran have held a joint board meeting in Tehran, the Russian Justice Ministry told TASS.

"The participants in the meeting addressed a wide range of the most pressing issues regarding a variety of areas for the ministries’ activities, and also considered the prospects of legal cooperation in the future," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the meeting touched upon issues related to non-profit organizations, court enforcement proceedings, civil registration, the attorney and notarial systems, international legal assistance, apostille affixing and the establishment of a system for high-quality education in law.
