Kremlin comments on social media compliance with Russian law, hints at Twitter

It is reported that access to this US-based social network has been restricted in Russia since February 24

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Social media companies must abide by Russia’s laws to operate in the country, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters this Wednesday.

"This is a matter of compliance by any social network with the current Russian legislation. These norms that social media must comply with to operate in our country are well known. This is the main criteria," Putin’s press secretary said, commenting on whether restrictions on Twitter can be lifted following the much-talked about clean-up and reform of the company by its new owner Elon Musk.

On October 27, Musk closed the Twitter purchase deal. Access to this US-based social network has been restricted in Russia since February 24.
