West's era of dominance coming to an end — Lavrov

"The international community doesn’t want to be a hostage to the unilateral decisions of former rulers," the Russian foreign minister stressed

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. As the world today develops toward multipolarity, the era of Western dominance is coming to an end, and there is no changing this paradigm now, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"The world is changing cardinally and is becoming truly multipolar. The five-hundred-year period of the West’s dominance is a thing of the past and it must find courage to accept this objective reality. The international community doesn’t want to be a hostage to the unilateral decisions of former rulers," Lavrov said at a meeting of the Group of Twenty top diplomats on the results of South Africa’s presidency of the association.

"This is especially obvious today when we mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism and 65th anniversary of the United Nations decolonization declaration as a starting point in the movement for independence in Africa, Asia and in the global South in general," he added.
