Authorities doing everything possible to help flood-affected Orenburg residents — Kremlin

"There is communication even in the most challenging situations, the population receives all the necessary assistance," Dmitry Peskov pointed out

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Authorities in Russia’s Orenburg Region are doing everything they can to help those affected by the flooding there, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"The authorities are working closely with the population. All [regional] authorities: municipal, district, regional are in close contact with the population. There is communication even in the most challenging situations, the population receives all the necessary assistance," the spokesman pointed out.

The partial collapse of a dam in Orsk, second largest city of Russia’s Orenburg Region, occurred in two places on the night of April 6. Another breach took place on the evening of the same day. According to the latest information, over 10,000 houses and almost 18,700 areas remain flooded in the region, including in Orenburg. Nearly 6,500 people have been evacuated from the flooded area. The regional authorities have declared a federal emergency. The worst flooding is expected in Orenburg on April 10.
