Main cybercrime threats come from abroad, mainly Ukraine — Russia’s Internal Ministry

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russian Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev said that the main threat from cybercrime comes from abroad, primarily from Ukraine.

"Measures are being taken to improve the efficiency of the fight against cybercrime. It should be noted that considerable risks originate from overseas, mainly from Ukraine," he said.

The minister added that last year, methods to prevent the hiding or substitution of a subscriber number were implemented in accordance with the legislation. Kolokoltsev stressed that the total number of people working in this area increased by 15% over the previous year, owing mostly to settign up local operative units to combat the unlawful use of IT technologies.

"More than 100,000 people who committed IT crimes have been identified. The number of such activities discovered by police increased by 20%, while verified facts of such activities in organized forms have increased by about a third," he stated.
