MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin and Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) Chairman Ivan Tertel underscored the need to prevent subversive activities being directed from abroad, which are carried out by Western intelligence services, including the use of non-systemic opposition forces, the SVR press service reported.
"They stressed that, in the current situation, one of the main tasks for the intelligence [services] is the timely identification and suppression of subversive actions staged from abroad, including the use of non-systemic opposition [forces] by foreign intelligence services, aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation in Russia and Belarus, causing damage to the economy and defense, and the life and health of the citizenry of both countries," the SVR press service said following the results of the 23rd meeting of the boards of the Russian SVR and the Belarusian KGB.
The press service also noted that during the meeting between Naryshkin and Tertel, they expressed the mutual opinion that "in the context of intensified subversive activities of Western intelligence services in relation to the [Russia-Belarus] Union State, increased aggressiveness and efforts of the United States and its allies to prevent the establishment of a multipolar world order, it is becoming more important to further maintain close cooperation and timely adjustment of the mechanism for jointly countering current challenges and threats for Russia and Belarus."
