MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Almost 3,500 immigrants signed up for military service last year after receiving Russian citizenship, the Russian Investigative Committee said.
Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin on Thursday took stock of the agency’s performance during the past year.
"The Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee praised the work that was done to register former immigrants with military conscription offices. Over a few months of 2023, more than 16,000 people were registered after they were granted Russian citizenship. Of them, more than 1,700 were called up for military service as conscripts, and almost 3,500 signed contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry to enlist for military service," the agency said in a statement.
It was noted at the meeting that Investigative Committee officers that perform their professional duty in Russia’s new regions are carrying out a historical mission.
"Their efforts are not limited to investigating the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare by the enemy, or other crimes. Last year officers sent more than 700 tons of humanitarian cargo," the agency said.
