BRICS+ agricultural potential is enormous, FAO will help set up interaction

Director of the FAO Liaison Office with Russia Oleg Kobyakov highlighted the agro-industrial strengths of each of the association's member countries

MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. BRICS+'s agriculture industry has significant development potential and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is fully prepared to assist Russia in developing links with the association, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with Russia Oleg Kobyakov said in an interview with TASS.

"BRICS+ has enormous potential for further development of the agricultural sector. I am confident that the current Russian chairmanship will place a high priority on member nations’ interactions in agricultural and associated sectors including fishery, forestry, and the food industry, as well as rural development and village life improvement. We are prepared to offer every conceivable assistance to this process," he said.

Kobyakov highlighted the agro-industrial strengths of each of the association's member countries. "Brazil is the world's largest exporter of agricultural products, supplying coffee, sugar cane, meat, and soybeans to global markets. India is the world's greatest milk producer, while also paying attention to rice, wheat, millet, cotton, and sugar cane. South Africa produces wheat, corn, grapes, and sugar cane on an industrial scale. China is the world's greatest producer of a variety of food items, including grain, meat, and fish, and it now has not just vast land resources but also cutting-edge agricultural technology," he said.

Kobyakov described the increasing pace of Russia's agro-industrial complex as outstanding, pointing out that Russian production's triumphs are "well known."
