Russian envoy to Ottawa brands new Canadian sanctions as ‘nominal’

Oleg Stepanov said that "It is clear that there will be no consequences for our citizens and organizations"

OTTAWA, February 23. /TASS/. Yet another round of Canada’s anti-Russian restrictions is merely symbolic and has no consequences for those included in the sanctions list but Moscow will definitely reciprocate, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov told a TASS correspondent.

"This round of sanctions, much like previous similar inventions by the cabinet of [Canadian Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau, makes no sense. This is a helpless purely nominal act. It is clear that there will be no consequences for our citizens and organizations. I think that they don’t even notice any Canadian sanctions," the diplomat said. Stepanov added that "nobody has canceled the reciprocity principle, and our response is definitely forthcoming."

Earlier on Friday, Ottawa included another 10 private individuals and 153 legal entities in the anti-Russian sanctions list.
