ST. PETERSBURG, December 26. /TASS/. CIS leaders have compared their views on pressing international issues at their recent informal meeting in St. Petersburg, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Izvestia television.
He called the summit "undoubtedly successful," saying it provided the leaders with a very important opportunity to communicate in an informal setting. According to the spokesman, the talks were "far from being confined to the season’s holidays."
"It was, indeed, a discussion of work issues," Peskov said. "The most urgent, the hottest topics were discussed, plus [it was an opportunity] for everyone to synch up, compare notes on the most pressing issues on the international agenda, the regional agenda, on issues of further development of cooperation."
He said the CIS has more advanced forms of integration, such as the EAEU. But the CIS format, according to the spokesman, also provides an excellent opportunity to deepen humanitarian cooperation, including in such areas as education and development and promotion of the Russian language.
