Russia’s UN mission accuses West of ignoring humanitarian disaster in Gaza

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, also said that earlier UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the Gaza Strip had turned into a cemetery for children

UNITED NATIONS, December 6. /TASS/. Western countries continue to ignore the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, preferring to convene UN Security Council meetings on Ukraine instead, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said.

"They keep the Ukraine issue afloat in the Security Council at all costs. To this end, they need to gather us all here now and then, even if it looks cynical with these very countries ignoring the real humanitarian disaster that Israel’s actions have created in the Gaza Strip," he pointed out at a meeting on the situation in Ukraine.

According to the Russian diplomat, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said earlier that the Gaza Strip had turned into a graveyard for children. "However, in the perverse logic of Western countries, this is not reason enough to discuss the issue in the UN Security Council because <...> it is politically inconvenient and will paint their strategic ally in a bad light," Polyansky noted.

Although the West keeps convening UN Security Council meetings on the situation in Ukraine, in fact, "they [the Westerners] don’t care a bit about the Ukrainian people." "This became evident <...> last April <...>, when they presumptuously discouraged the Kiev regime’s head from signing an already initialled draft peace treaty with Russia. Now, Kiev officials are clearly kicking themselves over this," the diplomat concluded.
