Western efforts to pin 'breadbasket' label on Ukraine fail — Russian diplomat

Sergey Vershinin recalled that "the share of Ukrainian wheat on the world market did not exceed even 2% in the past"

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. The West has failed in its attempt to portray Ukraine as the world’s breadbasket, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said.

"And most importantly, I would also like to emphasize <...> Western countries are making efforts to cement Ukraine as the world's breadbasket. And it is clear that this did not work, because there is no such breadbasket," he said at an embassy roundtable on food security.

In this regard, the senior diplomat recalled that "the share of Ukrainian wheat on the world market did not exceed even 2% in the past." "It is clear that such a share cannot be decisive from the point of view of the food security situation," Vershinin concluded.
