Kremlin spokesman dismisses idea to limit travel by Russian diplomats in EU as ‘nonsense’

Dmitry Peskov said the idea, if implemented, will hamper the work of diplomats

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has ridiculed the recent idea to restrict travel by Russian diplomats around the EU as absurd.

"Another nonsense, anti-Russian nonsense. They are trying to find a way to hem us in," he said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, according to the footage of the interview that Zarubin posted to his Telegram channel.

Peskov said the idea, if implemented, will hamper the work of diplomats.

"They would reject communicating with our diplomats, that is, they would reject getting information from the primary source. It’s hard to imagine greater nonsense for reasonable politicians because, at the very least, one should always be willing to have fresh data from both sides. They would completely cast away one of the sides," the spokesman said. "Absolute nonsense."

"No matter what, a lot of people in the European Union need consular services for their ties with Russia. They would deprive people of this right," Peskov said. "Tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people - our former and current fellow citizens - live in Europe, and they would also have their rights limited."

He said he was referring, among others, to people in mixed marriages.

"So it's unreasonable, it's just about a blind desire to annoy Russia. It is impossible to say anything good about it, of course," the spokesman said. "Don't be surprised by anything. They will probably come up with something else."
