Russia still does not officially recognize Taliban, diplomat says

The Taliban formed an interim Afghan government on September 7, 2021, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country

MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Russia has made no progress in recognizing the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) in power in Afghanistan, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov told TASS.

"No, there are no changes. And we have talked about it many times at all possible levels," he said.

After the US announced it would withdraw its armed forces from Afghanistan in the spring of 2021, Taliban members launched a large-scale operation to take control of the country. On August 15, they took Kabul without a fight. On September 7, they announced forming an interim government, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country.
