Interior Ministry denies death of police officer injured in Makhachkala airport riot

According to the ministry, the two policemen who were injured are being treated in hospitals

MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. The Interior Ministry has denied that a policeman died after being injured during the riots at Makhachkala airport.

"The rumor being spread in the media and on the Internet about the death of a police officer who took part in the suppression of mass night-time riots on October 30 at Makhachkala International Airport has nothing to do with reality," the Russian Interior Ministry said.

According to the ministry press-center, the two policemen who were injured are being treated in hospitals.

"The others were given first aid and taken home," the Interior Ministry said.

Earlier reports on the social networks said that a police officer, hit with a stone in the temple during clashes at the airport, died. The local health authorities did not confirm this.

On the evening of October 29, several hundred people gathered at Makhachkala airport for a protest demonstration against the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The protesters broke through the fence and entered the runway and the airport building. The government of Dagestan said the situation was under control, with security services working at the site of the incident. An emergency response center was set up under Dagestan’s head Sergey Melikov. He said those who had gathered at the airport grossly violated the law and would be brought to justice.
