Lavrov says Russia and Iran slam unilateral sanctions as unacceptable

It is stated that Iran and Russia also oppose the concept of rule-based order promoted by the West

TEHRAN, June 23. /TASS/. Moscow and Tehran condemn the unacceptable practice of illegal unilateral sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday at a press conference following talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran.

"And, of course, both we and Iran condemn the unacceptable practice of illegal unilateral sanctions, which are imposed contrary to the UN Charter and which require counteraction by all independent members of the international community," Lavrov said.

"For this purpose, the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter was created some time ago, it includes both Iran and the Russian Federation, and now more than 20 states are its members. I am sure it will expand," the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.

As the minister noted, Iran and Russia also oppose the concept of rule-based order promoted by the West. "We are united in our rejection of the concept of the so-called rule-based order promoted by the United States and their satellites, a concept that is designed to replace international law, to replace the basic principles of the UN Charter, above all the principle of the sovereign equality of states," Lavrov added, "Everything that the US and its allies are doing in the international arena directly undermines this UN fundamental principle.".
