Over 380 square kilometers surveyed following Black Sea tanker accident

KRASNODAR, December 28. /TASS/. Specialists have assessed more than 380 square kilometers of water following the tanker accident in the Black Sea; as of the morning of December 28, more than 25 tons of oil-water mixture have been collected, the Krasnodar Region operational headquarters reported on its Telegram channel.

"A total of 25 tons of oil-water mixture have been collected in the waters of the Kerch Strait as of the morning of December 28. Over 380 square kilometers of the water area have been examined," the statement said.

The Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 oil tankers collided on December 15. One crew member died, and others were evacuated. According to emergency services, the tankers were carrying approximately 9,200 tons of fuel oil. The accident resulted in an oil spill in the Black Sea, and cleanup efforts are ongoing.

The coastline of the Krasnodar Region polluted with fuel oil has been divided into sectors, with each municipality in the region deploying at least 100 workers for the cleanup operations. According to Crimean Head Sergey Aksyonov, most of the spill drifted toward the Krasnodar Region, and cleanup efforts in Crimea are expected to be completed before the start of the tourist season.
