No oil spill as dry bulk carrier runs aground off Anapa in Russia’s Black Sea waters

The ship’s captain has not reported any casualties, the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport noted

KRASNODAR, November 27. /TASS/. No oil spill resulted from a maritime incident in which the dry bulk carrier Blue Shark ran aground in the wake of a major storm off of Anapa, Krasnodar Region, after the vessel experienced engine trouble, the southern Russian region’s emergency operations center reported in a statement on its Telegram channel.

"The Belize-flagged bulk carrier Blue Shark ran aground [in waters] 440 meters off of the village of Vityazevo [near Anapa] due to engine trouble and strong sea waves. It [the vessel] will be salvaged as soon as weather conditions improve," the emergency services center said in the statement.

The ship’s captain has not reported any casualties, the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport told TASS.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Monday as 21 crewmembers, including Syrian, Indian and Egyptian nationals, were aboard. Just prior to the incident, the vessel was loaded with barley at the seaport of Taman, Krasnodar Region, for delivery to Egypt. Russian Emergencies Ministry specialists are developing a salvage plan for the stranded vessel.
