Russian intellectual property agency notes trend of registering Cyrillic brands

Yury Zubov noted that the registration of brands in Russian is expected to grow over time

MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property has observed a trend toward registering Cyrillic brands globally, head of the service Yury Zubov told reporters.

"I have noticed a trend toward global registration of brands written in Cyrillic, in the Russian language. For example, we have registered about 50 brands with such names so far. In other words, this is a name that resembles a Russian individual," Zubov said. He noted that the registration of brands in Russian is expected to grow over time.

"Trends do not always stem from a desire to copy foreign brands. More often than not, it is a necessity because producers aim to promote their products not only in Russia but also on international markets. We also frequently see brands being registered in both Cyrillic and Latin letters simultaneously. This approach ensures stronger promotion across the Eurasian space and in friendly nations, as Latin script remains more familiar to consumers abroad," Zubov added.
