MOSCOW, December 9. /TASS/. Russia and the Dominican Republic are holding discussions to open direct flights between the two countries, Alejandro Arias Zarzuela, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Dominican Republic to the Russian Federation, told TASS.
"Yes, I can say that there were official contacts, conversations on this topic between the departments responsible for this. At the moment, they are working to resolve logistical issues associated with opening such flights. But, yes, these are such contacts," the diplomat said, answering a relevant question.
"But it should be noted that these are contacts between the relevant sectors: not at a general level, but between the companies and agencies responsible for this," he added.
When asked whether he expects the flow of tourists from Russia to increase next year, the diplomat replied: "Yes, of course, this is our main hope."
"We really hope to return to the numbers we had before and restore the flow of tourists from Russia. Any hope must be supported by concrete work, and our embassy is doing just that: promoting this issue to restore the number of tourists from Russia to the Dominican Republic," Arias Zarzuela said.
