MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Annual inflation in Russia accelerated from 8.56% a week earlier to 8.68% from November 12 to 18, the Ministry of Economic Development said in its price review.
"Consumer inflation stood at 0.37% over the week from November 12 to 18. In the food sector, prices changed by 0.73% during the reporting week: price dynamics was 4.09% for fruits and vegetables, and 0.42% for other foods. In the non-food segment, price growth rates totaled 0.12%: price for medicinal products, electric and domestic appliances declined," the ministry informed.
"In the services sector, price growth rates dropped to 0.25% amid less expensive hotel services. The consumer price index for November 18 totaled 8.68%," the ministry added.
Foods make the main contribution to inflation dynamics, primarily vegetables and fruits (limited supply due to the cold spell in May prompted the price hike) and dairy products.
"Comprehensive measures of customs and tariff regulations were taken in 2024 to restrain the rise in food prices. Temporary benefits were introduced as setting import duties to zero for the limited quantity of beef, poultry, eggs and tomatoes. The ban on rice exports is effective; its extension for the first half of 2025 is being discussed. Butter imports was expanded on account of new suppliers; provision of the benefit for its duty-free import will be agreed soon with partners in the Eurasian Economic Union," the ministry informed.
