KRASNOYARSK, February 19. /TASS/. A program on development of four backbone cities in the Arctic will be designed in the Krasnoyarsk Region, Governor Mikhail Kotukov said at a meeting with the Federation Council's Speaker Valentina Matviyenko.
In 2023, the Government of the Russian Federation made up a list of the Arctic backbone cities, which included 16 agglomerations and settlements.
"We have been working on a program to develop the backbone settlements. (The list contains) four settlements in our region - Norilsk, Dudinka, Dixon and Igarka," the governor said, adding that Taimyr is "experiencing an investment boom." About 200 investment projects are being implemented in the region, where 130,000 new jobs will be created by 2030, he added.
The Federation Council's speaker, in her turn, noted the development of Norilsk is "patronized by the Federation Council."
In July, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to work together with the regions to determine a list of backbone settlements in the Arctic and to prepare master plans for their development until 2035. The president stressed it is important to begin the practical implementation of measures in the Arctic cities from 2025 already.
