Russia’s meat imports seen at 600,000 tons by year’s end — agricultural watchdog

Rosselkhoznadzor head Sergey Dankvert noted that there was currently no dependence on supplies from unfriendly countries

MOSCOW, December 27. /TASS/. Imports of meat products to Russia at the end of 2023 will amount to about 600,000 tons, which is 30,000 tons higher than last year’s figure, head of the Russian agricultural watchdog (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergey Dankvert said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"As for imports, this year they will be at about 600,000 tons. It will be about 30,000 tons more than last year. But exports, according to our calculations, will be bigger. Considering that the number of supplies of live cattle has increased. We have supplied 90,000 live cattle in neighboring countries, about 200,000 pigs, 150,000 rams. Therefore, in general, we have about 660,000 tons. The situation is quite favorable," Dankvert said.

He also noted that there is currently no dependence on supplies from unfriendly countries.

Earlier Dankvert said that the volume of meat exports from Russia in 2022 exceeded the volume of imports. According to him, Russia exported 650,000 tons of meat last year and imported 530,000 tons.
