Russian Central Bank chief hopes no licenses to be revoked in 2024

The sanctions crisis of this and last years tested the efficiency of the policy of sanitation that the regulator pursued, Elvira Nabiullina said

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Russian Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina hopes that no licenses will be revoked in 2024 as was the case this year, as the country’s banking sector is stable.

"Let’s hope," she said when asked a respective question.

The sanctions crisis of this and last years tested the efficiency of the policy of sanitation that the regulator pursued, she said in an interview with RBC business daily.

"And I can say confidently that banks are stable indeed, considering the scale of issues they coped with and passed this period properly. There are probably (some problems - TASS) indeed, though they are not large-scale in nature," Nabiullina added.

The banks’ blocked assets are one of such problems, the regulator’s chief noted. "And here we provided a relaxation so that they could create reserves within a decade. We gradually withdraw from many other regulatory relaxations. We are returning to normal regulation and the creation of additional buffers," she said.
