MOSCOW, December 21. /TASS/. Russia will respond in kind if its assets in Europe are confiscated, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"If such a decision is taken the Russian Federation will respond absolutely in kind. We also have enough assets that are frozen here, on so-called accounts of type C, those are our liabilities on securities, dividends, the ones that represent our commitments to foreign counteragents from unfriendly countries," he said.
"They all are frozen. Revenues from using those funds are substantial, and they may used similarly if a decision is made by our unfriendly partners," the minister added.
Earlier, the European Union for the first time put the possibility of confiscating financial assets of Russian legal entities or individuals in its 12th package of restrictions against Moscow with the purpose of subsequent payments of compensations to European companies, whose Russian property passed into the ownership of the state or Russian firms.
