KALININGRAD, May 25. /TASS/. The crew of the Baltic Fleet’s guard ship Neustrashimy undergoing shipbuilders’ sea trials at the Fleet’s Baltic naval ranges checked the working capacity and efficiency of its sonar, the Fleet’s press office reported on Wednesday.
"As part of the stage of the Shipyard’s running tests, the crew of the guard ship Neustrashimy checked the performance of the sonar system designed to analyze the underwater situation, in particular, to search for and detect submarines, mines, torpedoes and also underwater saboteurs at various distances and depths on the move, adrift and in an anchorage," the press office said in a statement.
Specifically, the warship’s crew and the Shipyard’s staff focused on checking the sonar’s capabilities to spot underwater targets at long ranges, it said.
For this purpose, the small anti-submarine warfare ship Aleksin fired several torpedoes towards the Neustrashimy. In this test, the guard ship’s specialists used the sonar’s data to identify information and interact with the warship’s weapon control systems, the press office specified.
"As a result, the sonar confirmed its high efficiency and the task set for the ship’s sonar staff was accomplished in full and with high quality," the press office said in a comment for TASS.
As was reported earlier, the staff of the Yantar Shipyard on the Baltic coast in the Kaliningrad Region carried out work to upgrade the warship’s mechanics, repair and reinstall boost engines and modernize its armaments and support mechanisms.
As part of the ongoing sea trials, the crew of the Neustrashimy has successfully conducted artillery and missile firings and coped with other assigned tasks. Upon completion of the entire set of trials, the Neustrashimy will re-enter the Baltic Fleet’s combat inventory and continue accomplishing missions within a taskforce of the Fleet’s surface ships.
