VIENNA, April 2. /TASS/. Austria has denied US warplanes access to its airspace for transit flights to strike facilities in Iran, ORF Radio quoted a spokesman for the Alpine republic’s Defense Ministry as saying.
According to him, the decision stems from a national law on neutrality. The ministry explained it turns down requests for warplane flights "whenever they are used for military support of any party to an [active] conflict." "This means that requests to authorize flights to Ukraine and Iran will not be approved," the ministry added.
Earlier, Spain closed its airspace to US warplanes, while Italy blocked the US use of the Sigonella air base in Sicily for the war.
