Israel tried to disrupt Cairo talks, Hamas says

The senior Hamas official said that Israeli authorities had rejected Hamas demands to end the offensive on the enclave

LONDON, March 7. /TASS/. Israel tried to disrupt the Cairo consultations on the settlement of the situation in the Gaza Strip, senior Hamas official, Sami Abu Zuhri, told Reuters.

He pointed out that Israel had obstructed efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza during four days of talks. Zuhri said that Israeli authorities had rejected Hamas demands to end its offensive on the enclave, withdraw its troops and allow access to Gaza to help the needy and return displaced people.

Earlier on Thursday, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported, citing sources, that the Cairo consultations had ended without an agreement between Hamas and Israel. In turn, the Egyptian Al-Qahera el-Ekhbariya TV channel reported that a Hamas delegation was leaving the country to consult with the movement's leadership on the terms of a possible ceasefire. According to the channel's source, the talks will resume in the coming days.
