Supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine may entail unpredictable consequences — expert

"At the moment and under the current conditions, the probability of supplying the missiles seems low, as NATO does not want the conflict in Ukraine to escalate into a nuclear war or World War III," Hong Wan-seok said

SEOUL, March 7. /TASS/. The possible delivery of German long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine is likely to escalate the conflict and entail unpredictable consequences, Hong Wan-seok, the Dean of the College of International Relations and Area Studies at Hanguk University, has told TASS.

"The direct and indirect involvement of the US, Britain and other key NATO countries in the war in Ukraine is an open secret and an inconvenient truth," Hong said, commenting on the recent leak of a conversation between high-ranking German military officers.

"There is a high probability that the war in Ukraine may take a new unpredictable path, if Germany delivers Taurus missiles to Ukraine, thus enabling strikes not only on the Crimean Bridge but also on other places inside Russia. The missiles have a range of 500 kilometers," said Hong, who also chairs the department of Russia and CIS Studies.

"At the moment and under the current conditions, the probability of supplying the missiles seems low, as NATO does not want the conflict in Ukraine to escalate into a nuclear war or World War III," the expert said.

On March 5, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Germany had not made any decisions that would allow sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

On March 1, RT TV editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said that on the day when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz vowed that NATO was not and would not be involved in the Ukrainian conflict, high-ranking German army officers were discussing the possibility of attacking the Crimean bridge without repercussions for the German authorities. Simonyan referred to the existence of an authentic audio recording and later published a transcript of the conversation. The officers discussed the extent to which Taurus missiles could destroy the Crimean bridge and also the details of preparations for such an attack.
