Official says Ukrainian killed in Spain may have been falsely identified

Spanish Civil Guard continues to investigate and is currently unable to provide any additional information

MADRID, February 19. /TASS/. The man recently killed in Spain who was described by the Civil Guard as being a Ukrainian national may have been falsely identified, a Spanish Interior Ministry official told TASS.

"The body of a man with several gunshot wounds was found in the town of Villajoyosa (in the region of Alicante - TASS) last Tuesday," the official said, when asked to comment on reports that Maxim Kuzminov, who had hijacked a Russian military helicopters in 2023, died in the Alicante Province. "Investigators may have made a false ID and we could be talking about a completely different person," he added.

The ministry official also said the Spanish Civil Guard "continues to investigate and is currently unable to provide any additional information".
