SEOUL, January 14. /TASS/. North Korea launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile on January 14, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing the South Korean military.
"An estimated intermediate-range ballistic missile was launched from the Pyongyang area toward the Sea of Japan at about 2:55 p.m. (5:55 a.m. GMT) today," South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The news agency noted that this class includes missiles with a range of 3,000 to 5,500 kilometers. The South Korean side is exchanging information with the United States and Japan, maintaining combat readiness.
Earlier, the news agency reported that North Korea launched a ballistic missile for the first time this year. On December 18, 2023, the country launched the Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile.
South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik said earlier that North Korea may test a new solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missile in January. Intermediate-range ballistic missiles can reach Guam, where US bases are located, if launched from Pyongyang.
