ROME, January 12. /TASS/. The Holy See does not see any progress towards a settlement in Ukraine, the Vatican's Secretary of State said.
"We are now busy with [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky’s famous proposals for peace, especially its humanitarian component. There are no special measures aimed at directly ending the conflict, no intermediation, but our desire is to facilitate conditions for mutual understanding, convergence, which will help to bring talks closer. This is what the mission of [President of the Episcopal Conference of Italy] Cardinal [Matteo] Zuppi is focused on. But personally, I still see this as being a long way off," Cardinal Pietro Parolin said, cited by the ANSA news agency.
When answering a reporter’s question about whether Washington terminating military aid to Ukraine would play a role in what happens with peace, Parolin said that he cannot give an assessment to this piece of news. "It impressed me," the Cardinal said. "But I do not know what it might mean. I need to have more information," he added.
