TEL AVIV, December 9. /TASS/. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the position of the US, who vetoed the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to the Prime Minister, the entire world must understand that Washington is right.

"I appreciate the correct position that the US assumed in the UN Security Council. Other countries also must understand that it is impossible to support the elimination of Hamas on the one hand and to call to stop the war that will lead to the elimination of Hamas," Netanyahu said, according to his office. "Therefore Israel will continue the just war to destroy Hamas and to achieve other military goals we’ve set."

On December 8, the US invoked the veto power and blocked the UAE draft humanitarian resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict area. The resolution was supported by 13 out of 15 Security Council member states, including Russia and China. The UK abstained.
