CSTO members see world in crisis — Lukashenko

"All members of the Collective Security Council have pointed out that the current international situation is marked by an extremely high level of confrontation and polarization," the Belarusian leader said

MINSK, November 23. /TASS/. All members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council have noted that the world is in crisis so the CSTO must double down on efforts to strengthen the organization, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said following the Council’s Minsk session.

"All members of the Collective Security Council have pointed out that the current international situation is marked by an extremely high level of confrontation and polarization and demands from us the further consolidation of efforts and bolstering of the CSTO as an indivisible element of ensuring security in the Eurasian region," he said.

The CSTO, in addition to Belarus, which chairs the organization this year, also includes Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Representatives from the governments of all six countries are attending the Minsk summit with the exception of Armenia.

Lukashenko said that during a closed-door meeting, the presidents "assessed the impact on the security of CSTO member states under the current circumstances and the prospects of settling crisis situations in the CSTO zone of responsibility and adjacent regions."
