BRUSSELS, November 4. /TASS/. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, during her sixth visit to Kiev since the beginning of Russia's special military operation, intends to discuss the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU and financial assistance to this country, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"Good to be back in Kiev for my 6th war time visit. I’m here to discuss Ukraine’s accession path to the EU. The EU’s financial support to rebuild Ukraine as a modern, prosperous democracy," she wrote.
It was reported earlier that President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrived in the Ukrainian capital.
Kiev expected to receive a "positive signal" about the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. On Friday, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko (on a terrorist and extremist list of the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service) announced that the President of the European Commission would come to Kiev with "positive news for Ukraine" on the start of negotiations on EU accession.
At the same time, the Ukrainian publication Strana, citing a government source, reported that during the trip there will be no remarks on the start of talks on the country's accession to the EU. According to the publication's source, it is too early to start discussions on Ukraine's membership in the EU.
On February 28, 2022, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed an application to join the European Union. EU leaders agreed to grant Ukraine and Moldova candidate status for membership in the bloc at a meeting in Brussels on June 23. The countries must meet a number of requirements, including reforms, in order to begin the negotiation process.
