TEL AVIV, October 31. /TASS/. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is expanding the scale of its military operations in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, Jonathan Conricus, an Israeli army reservist and former official IDF spokesman who still speaks on behalf of the force, told a briefing.
"We are expanding our activity in Gaza. We have conducted several raids in recent days. Israeli forces are in several parts of northern Gaza and are conducting operations [there]," Conricus said.
According to him, "armored vehicles, [including] tanks, armored personnel carriers and bulldozers," are advancing deep into Gaza "using fire support and intelligence." Conricus said the Israeli army is looking for fighters from radical Palestinian group Hamas, engaging in combat with them, and attacking them on the ground and from the air, using a variety of available means.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when Hamas militants staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and has been delivering rocket attacks on Gaza as well as some districts in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
On October 27, the IDF’s chief spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, announced the expansion of Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza.
