Canadian combat medic killed in Ukraine — newspaper

A Canadian Foreign Ministry spokesperson declined to provide comment

OTTAWA, January 17. /TASS/. Canadian citizen Grigory Tsekhmistrenko has been killed while serving as a medic in Ukraine's International Legion, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported on Monday.

The specifics of his death are not yet public, the paper said. According to the Globe and Mail, Tsekhmistrenko, who obtained Canadian citizenship three years ago, was killed near the city of Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukraine) on Sunday.

A Canadian Foreign Ministry spokesperson declined to provide comment to the newspaper.

Tsekhmistrenko is the third Canadian national killed in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s special military operation.
