Transnistrian foreign minister calls on Moldova and Ukraine to prevent escalation

Vitaly Ignatyev noted that according to the reports, speaker of the Moldovan parliament Igor Grosu and chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed a weapons transfer and arms supplies at a meeting on May 4

MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. Transnistrian Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatyev has called on Kiev and Chisinau to prevent the situation in his unrecognized republic from escalating further.

"We are calling on our neighbors in Ukraine and Moldova to keep calm, make balanced decisions and prevent escalation," he said in a live broadcast by the Rossiya 24 television channel on Thursday.

On May 4, speaker of the Moldovan parliament Igor Grosu met with chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Ignatyev said.

"We could see reports on the social media saying a weapons transfer and arms supplies are being discussed," the Transnistrian foreign minister said.

He described Chisinau’s recent decision to hold a military exercise at a testing ground near the security zone under peacekeepers’ control as "a counterproductive step that could destabilize the situation further."

On Wednesday, investigators in Transnistria opened a criminal case following a terror attack attempt the day before with the use of a drone loaded with explosives near the Transnistrian television and radio center, the site of the recent act of terror.
