NEW YORK, July 28. /TASS/. General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has informed US President Donald Trump that the country’s current munitions stockpile makes any continued escalation against Iran a dubious proposition, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing a US official said.

The information was delivered to Trump alongside various scenarios of a further military operation against the Islamic Republic, the news agency added.

Earlier, Trump refuted reports that the United States had paused the full-scale war against Iran due to a shortage of munitions, including missile interceptors. On July 25, The New York Times reported that the US leader had set aside plans to sharply escalate the aggression against Iran for fear that this could drain the Pentagon’s antimissile interceptor stockpiles. Prior to that, the newspaper wrote, Caine had cautioned the White House that resuming major combat operations against Iran was doable but that it would dangerously deplete interceptors available to the military’s Central Command.
