Russia’s Gamaleya center works on technology to quickly develop coronavirus vaccines

The technology will be useful if the virus starts mutating rapidly

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology works on the technology accelerating the creation of a novel coronavirus vaccine in case of rapid genomic alterations of the infectious agent, Alexander Gintsburg, the head of the Sputnik V vaccine center, said in a televised interview with Rossiya-1 news channel, an excerpt of which was aired on the channel on Friday.

"The research center is working on technology which will allow developing vaccines very quickly and efficiently in case the pathogen starts mutating rapidly," he said.

Earlier, Fedor Lisitsyn, the Gamaleya center’s lead researcher, said that none of the detected coronavirus mutations could affect the efficacy of the available vaccines.
