Russia to hold upcoming sporting events at high level, deputy PM says

Russia will host the BRICS Games in 2024, Dmitry Chernyshenko said

MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Russia will hold sports events at a high level in 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

"Our country particularly holds major international events, making it possible for our athletes to maintain their competitive capabilities. We hosted the Children of Asia and the Children of Primorye large-scale tournaments. This year, we will host the BRICS Games, which are expected to include classic and non-Olympic national sports along with phygital competitions. The Silk Way rally will also take place this year, and the Friendship Games are scheduled for the early fall," Chernyshenko pointed out at a meeting on physical culture and sports on the sidelines of the International RUSSIA EXPO.

"In addition, Russia and China will also hold youth games, which have already become a tradition. The [Russian] city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is expected to host the event. We are confident that sports should be free of politics and we will be happy to welcome athletes to these competitions," he added.

The BRICS Games will be held in Kazan on June 11-23, while the Friendship Games are set to take place in Moscow and Yekaterinburg on September 15-29.
