Russian Interior Ministry puts ex-lawmaker on wanted list for fake news about armed forces

The Russian Justice Ministry included Dmitry Gudkov in the list of foreign agents on February 10

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. Former Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) member Dmitry Gudkov (designated as a foreign agent in Russia), who has been charged with disseminating false information about the Russian Armed Forces, has now been officially declared as wanted, according to the Russian Interior Ministry’s database of individuals on the wanted list.

"Dmitry Gennadievich Gudkov. Wanted under an article of the Criminal Code," the listing said without specifying which specific article is being invoked.

Law enforcement sources told TASS that investigators brought criminal charges against Gudkov for publicly disseminating patently false information about the Russian Armed Forces. "The reason [for filing charges] was a video posted last April on YouTube, in which Gudkov sharply criticized the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine within the framework of the special military operation as well as presented, as being purportedly reliable, information about the murders of civilians in the Ukrainian towns of Bucha, Irpen and Borodyanka," a law enforcement official said.

The Russian Justice Ministry included Gudkov in the list of foreign agents on February 10. He is currently residing outside of Russia.
