Putin tells how Russian scientists, museum workers risked their lives in Palmyra

Director General of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky reported to the president that the project for the restoration of Palmyra’s Arch of Triumph is ready

ST. PETERSBURG, November. /TASS/. Russian scientists and museum workers acted absolutely fearlessly when they were restoring Palmyra, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

"At the request of the Russian government, you took on the Palmyra project, went there to study things on the ground. I think that our scientists, our museum workers acted answering the call of the heart, fearlessly. It deserves applause," he said at the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum - Forum of United Cultures. "The team went to Palmyra, to Syria when hostilities were note yet over. <…> People actually risked their lives."

Director General of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky reported to the president that the project for the restoration of Palmyra’s Arch of Triumph is ready. "We see a lot of results in liberated Palmyra. The Arch of Triumph restoration project is ready. I hope it will begin soon," he said.
