MOSCOW, July 24. /TASS/. Russia's national statistics service predicts that the nation’s population may grow from the current 146 mln inhabitants to 157 mln people in 2036, according to an optimistic version of its forecast that was published on the service’s website on Tuesday.
In 2017, the optimistic version suggested that the Russian population would reach 154 mln by 2036.
According to the pessimistic account of the newly published predictions, the population may decrease and reach 136 mln inhabitants in the next 18 years. The median view presumes that the population will decrease, slipping to 145 mln.
Experts say that Russia’s demographics may improve if two nationwide plans are implemented - demographic and healthcare projects - which are aimed at rolling back the mortality rate, yet boosting the birth rate and average life expectancy of the Russian population.
